Description
Under Abby’s careful guidance non- classical and classical cellists enjoy an immersion experience playing Celtic and American traditional music, with plenty of opportunity to hone skills in playing by ear, developing harmonies, and creating rhythm back up.  She works on bowing styles, cello technique, musicality, ear training, and improvisation.

In addition to jam sessions and classical cello ensembles (including Bach on the Deck) evenings include walks on the beautiful Ashokan Reservoir or Zydeco dances, and always the popular Community Ceilidh Music Party on Saturday night. Home cooked meals (garden-to-table) are an additional highlight of this fabulous experience.

A Master Class is scheduled for every day of the Retreat. Each participant will present a tune that they have memorized (if possible) before the retreat. They will present it to the others in class. I will explain how each will work in pairs. We will work on each participant’s tune as a class, figuring out back up rhythm and chords, and then playing it all together. This is a collaborative way for all of us to explore different tunes in addition to the ones I will teach.
